Texas CPA CPE Requirements (2026)

Last reviewed 2026-07-16. Plain-language summary, not legal advice — always confirm the current rules with the Texas Board of Accountancy.

How much CPE does a Texas CPA need?

120/3yr rolling. Here is what Texas CPAs should know for renewal:

  • Total hours: 120/3yr rolling
  • Reporting cycle: 3 years (triennial, rolling)
  • Annual minimum: 20
  • Ethics: 4 hrs Board-approved ethics every 2 yrs (Board-registered provider)
  • Renewal timing: Renews last day of birth month annually; rolling 3-yr
  • Other key rules: Non-technical capped 50% (60 hrs); providers must register with TX Board.

Heads up: Texas requires a state-specific or board-approved ethics course. Make sure your ethics CPE meets Texas’s exact rule — general ethics may not count.

Who this applies to

Licensed CPAs renewing in Texas. Newly licensed CPAs often have a prorated or waived first cycle — check your renewal notice.
